Retrace the steps that Bernard O’Reilly made through Lamington National Park with the Stinson Walk. This historical event in 1937 saw a Stinson Model A aircraft go down above Lamington National Park, and when ten days passed with no news, Bernard O’Reilly strove to find the plane himself, which was buried in deep rainforest and harbouring two survivors in desperate need of attention.

The Stinson Walk is an annual walk that celebrates this big moment in Queensland history, offering people of all ages and backgrounds to retrace Bernard O’Reilly’s famous steps toward the crash site inside Lamington National Park. Two different routes can be taken, including a longer 37 km walk (Bernard O’Reilly’s footsteps) and a shorter 16 km walk (the “rescue route”), which both finish at the crash site and offer snacks and drinks for all participants. Walkers will be also to see what remains of the Stinson Model A, as well as the graves of its less fortunate passengers.

The Stinson Walk is both a fantastic personal challenge and a memorable experience for all ages, and only takes place twice a year in May and August.

This August, join the Stinson Walk through Lamington National Park, which will take place over one weekend from August 10 to August 12.
