Take on the ultimate challenge this spring at the 2019 Coolangatta Gold!
Coming to Coolangatta once again near our Bilinga apartments accommodation, the Coolangatta Gold is a historical surf lifesaving event that reels in up to a thousand seasoned athletes and surf lifesavers each year from all over Australia.
Measuring at a total 41.8 kilometres, this premier Ironman event is an endurance challenge even for the fittest, comprising of a 23-km ski, 2.1-km run, 3.5-km swim, 6.1-km board and a final 7.1-km run to the finish line.
Inspired from the Australian cult classic, The Coolangatta Gold, the Coolangatta Gold has been held annually since the film’s release in 1984, giving rise to various celebrated Ironman champions throughout its three-decade history such as Guy Leech, Caine Eckstein and Ali Day.
The iconic Coolangatta Gold is a push to the limit for triathletes, and an unmissable sports spectacle that takes over Coolangatta Gold Coast for two days each year! As well as the main event, the Coolangatta Gold takes place alongside a shorter 21-km course – a 10.5-km ski, 2-km swim, 3-km board and 5.5-km run – which offers an equally demanding challenge for athletes looking to train and trial their endurance.
Surf lifesavers and triathletes are already gearing up for the 2019 Coolangatta Gold, which will also feature an exciting Youth Challenge for aspiring lifesavers keen to get a taste of the main experience. As with each year, there will be an incredible atmosphere across Coolangatta, and it’s not to be missed if you’re looking to participate or spectate in 2019!
